Overview

PERCRO Laboratory (PERCeptual RObotics) developed a Virtual Prototyping System (Inside LINK-2 project, MURST co-financed), characterized by two distinct configurations but an integrated environment (exploiting same hardware devices): an interactive 3D visualization system (IVS) to increase assembly quality ( and an advanced ergonomic simulator (AES) to increase driving seat ergonomics.

The IVS allows a group of users to have a not immersive stereoscopic visualization of complex assemblies (1:1 scale), mechanical components or even of the entire vehicle, creating the illusion of being in front of a real prototype. Only one user can interact with the system. He can navigate, select and move components.

The AES is mainly constituted of a 2 wheels vehicle physical mock-up. Only its ergonomic interfaces are defined and the CAD 3D model regulates its dimensions.

The user wears a Head Mounted Display (HMD) and a device for the tracking of his head and arms.

The HMD allows the visualization of the vehicle front part and of the avatar’s upper limbs while the motion tracker allows to measure ergonomic data.
