Overview

The objective of the ENACTIVE Network of Excellence is the creation of a multidisciplinary research community with the major aim of structuring the research on a new generation of human-computer interfaces called Enactive Interfaces.

The 25-networked partners exchange knowledge from different landscapes, such as Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Sciences, Technology (Robotics, Computer Science and Virtual Environments), Interaction Design

Enactive knowledge, unlike symbolic and iconic knowledge, is the way of knowing and transmitting knowledge peculiar to the craftsman, in which the active use of the hands is an essential component. The development of Enactive Interfaces deals with the definition, design and validation of a new type of interfaces that allow humans to interact with digital entities, generated by a computer or belonging to the pervasive digital infrastructure, in the same way the craftsman does with real physical objects and materials.

The aim of ENACTIVE is that of starting a European Laboratory on Enactive Interfaces; an intermediate step in the direction of such a goal is represented by the implementation of a Virtual Laboratory for sharing previously acquired knowledge, generating new knowledge and steering new technological developments on Enactive Interfaces.
